Missions & Missionary Support

Missionary Paul Visit

July 1, 2023 - Missionaries Rev. Dr. Gerald and Heidi Paul from Grand Cayman joined us on June 12, 2023 for a potluck dinner. After the dinner we were treated to a presentation by the Pauls regarding their mission on the island. They talked about how God continues to bless them and the mission. One of the things they are currently working on is to open a Lutheran school so they can provide Christian education to the students. They also shared with us pictures of some of their members and their worship services.

Those who attended thoroughly enjoyed getting to know them personally. We were able to see how God uses the money sent by our congregation to support this mission. We thank them for taking time out of their busy schedule to share with us. Also, we thank God for His guidance in working through them.

St. John Sponsored Missionary - Cayman Islands

The Rev. Dr. Gerald and Heidi Paul serve the Lord through The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) as career missionaries in the Cayman Islands. As a pastor and church planter, Gerald works with local church leaders at Safe Harbour Lutheran Church to reach out to the people of the Cayman Islands — both locals and expats — with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Gerald also seeks to serve the Cuban refugee population on Grand Cayman, and he supports Concordia the Reformer Seminary in the Dominican Republic as an adjunct professor. In her role, Heidi supports the mission efforts and is exploring the possibility of starting a preschool for local children.

Gerald was born in Piet Retief, South Africa. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pretoria, South Africa, and received his Master of Divinity degree and Ph.D. in Missiology from Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne. Before becoming a career missionary, he was senior pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, Great Falls, Mont. Prior to that, he served parishes in South Africa and Wyoming. Heidi was born in Port Shepstone, South Africa. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, and a master’s degree in early childhood education from the University of Montana in Missoula, Mont. She was a teacher before heading to the mission field. Gerald and Heidi both enjoy camping, hiking and running.

Please pray for Gerald and Heidi as they serve the Lord in the Cayman Islands and throughout the Caribbean. Let us give thanks that they are ministering to God’s children in this part of the world.

"Thank you for making it possible for us to be here in the Cayman Islands to bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ and Him crucified for all people to all people living here. We pray that they would believe in His Name and marvel with us at God’s love and care for us all in the grace and mercy revealed in Jesus Christ, and praise His Name with us. We wish you God’s continued blessings for 2024! Your partners in mission." Your partners in mission, Gerald and Heidi Paul
